Forecast Friends is run by Tech Bebop LLC (techbebop.com) and is built to know as little about you as possible. Here is what it stores and how it's used.
What we store
- Your account — getting started needs no email and no password. We know your account only by a random Account ID (shown in Settings), and note the rough, city-level area each sign-in comes from.
- Your email, if you add one — in the apps, Settings → Use on other devices attaches it, so you can sign in on another device or on this website and get your account back if you lose your device. There's no password; we email you a one-time code. On this website a cookie keeps you signed in.
- The locations you add — the name and location you type. Names are just labels; they don't need to be real.
- Your current location — sent while an app or this website is open to look up the forecast for your own card, and by the apps' widgets and watch, which reuse the last location the app saw. We don't keep it. This website asks your browser where you are only when you press Use my current location.
- Location for alerts — only while current-location or rain alerts are on. The apps offer them when you first set up, and you can switch them off there or later in Settings. While either is on, an app reports its device's location to our server — on iPhone and iPad, in the background too. We keep just the most recent report, for your own alerts.
- Settings and alerts — your display settings, which cards have alerts turned on, and your quiet hours.
- Subscription status — Apple handles the payment; we never see your payment details. We store only your plan, when it runs out, and Apple's transaction identifier. On the free plan we also count the cartoons and maps you open, to apply the free limits.
- The Android waitlist — if you put your email into the homepage's Notify me form, we store that address and when you added it, for one purpose: emailing you once when the Android app launches. It isn't shared, isn't used for anything else, and joining the waitlist doesn't create an account. Want off it? Write to hello@ffweather.com.
It's all stored with Cloudflare, which hosts the service, and kept until you delete it or your account.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no trackers, no analytics.
- No selling your data.
- No passwords.
- No background location unless you switch on current-location or rain alerts.
Who your data touches
A few services help run Forecast Friends, and each gets only what it needs to do its job.
- Weather data — Apple Weather, Google (air quality and pollen), the National Weather Service and NOAA, looked up by place, never by name.
- Cartoons — drawn by Google Gemini from a description of the weather, the place and the cartoon animal. Never your email or anyone's name.
- Places — Apple Maps turns the location you type into coordinates (Zippopotam and Open-Meteo are fallbacks) and, in the apps, draws the map inside each card.
- Premium Maps — Xweather supplies the weather layers and Mapbox the base map. This view connects to both directly, so they see your IP address and the area you're looking at.
- Email and alerts — Resend emails your one-time codes. Alerts reach your device through Apple Push Notification service, and the App Store bills Premium.
- Bot protection — Cloudflare Turnstile protects this website from bots and may set a cookie.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete account permanently deletes your account and everything we store with it — the locations you added, your settings, alerts, stored location and subscription record — on every device.
Deleting your account does not cancel a paid subscription. Apple bills it, not us, so cancel it in your Apple account.
No longer have the app? Email hello@ffweather.com from your account's address, or with your Account ID, and we'll delete it for you.
